Welcome to the Academy!

The Saskatoon Academy of Music is home to over 650 students, and the largest private music school in Saskatchewan. We work with students of all levels and ages; young beginners, accomplished senior students who are aiming to prepare for post-secondary auditions, adults who haven’t played in 20 years and are wanting to get back into a much-loved hobby, and anyone who is curious about where their musical journey can go with some additional guidance.

Our instructors come from unique musical backgrounds, allowing us to find the perfect fit for each students’ individual goals and interests. In addition to classical approaches, we also instruct in pop, rock, jazz, folk, and contemporary styles, allowing our students to specialize into their areas of interest as their fundamental skills grow over the years.

We are happy to provide exam preparation lessons for both Royal Conservatory and Conservatory Canada, as well as theory classes, instruction in music arrangement and composition, audition preparation, and any specific needs that the student may have. Fostering a lifelong love for music is our passion here, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

We are pleased to offer lessons both in person and virtually.

Performance Opportunities

Recitals
Each year the Academy hosts two recitals: a Christmas recital, and a summer recital. These are held during the students’ usual lesson time and are a great low-pressure (non-mandatory) event for students of all instruments and levels to practice performing. Students may choose any piece they wish to perform, and family and friends are all welcome to attend for free!

Academy Music Festival
Each spring
we host the Academy Music Festival, which is a valuable opportunity for our students to perform for an adjudicator and receive feedback. Students have the opportunity to perform in competitive, non-competitive, or recital only categories. The Academy Music Festival encourages creativity with the students' chosen songs, and students can perform in any style of music that they wish. Students are evaluated equally on technique, and the expression and individuality they bring to the piece they are playing. The music festival is a great opportunity to meet other students from the academy and have fun with music.

Community

Supplemental Programs
Music is meant to be made together! We offer a variety of engaging group programming, including rock band classes, string orchestras, children's choirs, early music education groups, and more. For students who are already taking 1-on-1 lessons through the Academy, we also offer masterclasses where students can practice performance skills in front of one another and receive feedback from multiple Academy teachers. For a more in-depth description of these programs, visit our group programs page.

Community Events

Our space is all about bringing people together and creating meaningful experiences. Outside of lessons, we host a variety of community-minded events including all-ages shows and open stages, jams, family movie nights, benefit concerts for local communities, group rehearsals for musical projects, and more. We are happiest when we are able to support our local music scene through creative, family-friendly events!
